Background


The Association for Formidable Education Development (AFED) was established in 1999 and registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in 2000 with RC 14186 as a Professional and Humanitarian Organization, set up to cater for the interest of owners and operators of low-cost paying private schools in Nigeria.

AFED membership in Lagos State is over 5,000 school owners. In Rivers State, the move commenced on 22nd February, 2017 and culminated in its inauguration on the 26th day of July 2017 with about sixty (60) registered member schools.

As at date, the membership in Rivers State has grown to over four hundred (400) private school proprietors/proprietresses. Membership of the Association is open to male and female persons who had established and are running a low-cost paying private school in Nigeria and who has passion and interest in reducing the number of out of school children in the country in line with rules and regulations guiding establishment and running of private schools in Nigeria.

The Association is driven by the mission “to promote an enabling platform for low-cost education service providers to achieve better education standards for the populace through effective collaboration with relevant stakeholders” and with the vision to be “a world leading association of low-cost education service providers”. The Association is managed by its National Executives under the leadership of the President who doubles as the Chairman of the Executives. As a way of building strong platform for easy management, promote grassroots participation and membership drive, the association is structured along States, Chapters and Zones.




Aims and Objectives


  • To promote unity, co-operation and friendly atmosphere among member schools.

  • To promote creativity in the educational system, guide, motivate, encourage, assist and give technical advice for the development of member schools to meet set standard.

  • To solicit for funds and educational aids and accept same from individuals, government, local and international bodies, groups and organizations for the benefits and improvement of member schools.

  • To promote the progress and mutual co-existence of members and assist where possible in contributing positively to the solid educational well-being of the society.

  • To undertake philanthropic activities, particularly to those who are orphans and low income earners in the society.

  • To enhance academic development of indigent children and enhance their productivity as useful members of the society.

  • To provide a forum whereby it shall counsel, stimulate and initiate projects aimed at developing and harnessing the physical, mental, moral and financial resources of members in order to make them useful, prosperous and self-reliant in the actualization of our set goals.

  • To cooperate with existing and would be organizations, groups and individuals whose aims and aspirations are similar to ours.




Overview


Our International Patron is Prof. James Tooley the current Vice-Chancellor of Buckingham University, a man with passion for the education of the poor, Our Grand National Patron is Chief Rasheed Ladoja; while our national patrons are Prof. Patrick Utomi, Mrs Bukola Ladoja, Mr. Attai Akpan.

In Rivers State, our patrons is Eze (Dr.) Christian Akani, Department of Political Science, Ignatius Ajuri University of Education and Prof. Godwin E. Omokhua, Director, Institute for Agricultural Research & Development, University of Port Harcourt.

We organise unified mock examination for students of member schools, prepare pupils in yet-to-be-approved schools for placement examinations and publish educational development tools such as Continuous Assessment Kits, Student Register, and Student’s Diary Book etc.
